Norooz is the festival/celebration of the new year, the Spring Equinox; Earth's complete revolution around the sun. It is an event celebrated by the Persians (Iran) for thousands of years. However, the London government, in their 'infinite wisdom', have publicized this as an event celebrated by 'Turks, and other nationalities including Iran'..."Including Iran"!?
Iranians commence the celebration of Norooz for over thirteen days, with fire-jumping, festive feasting and picnicking as part of the 'festive package'. If anything, Norooz is to Iranians, what Christmas is to Christians. So, how could have the London Govt. got this so poorly wrong?
Please send in your comments in order to encourage a factual correction of this gross error, to mayor@london.gov.uk. I have sent in my dollar's worth, which reads as follows:
Norooz, or 'Newroz' as your site (http://www.london.gov.uk/gla/events/mar-09.jsp) reads, is a Persian new year, and has been for thousands of years. To state "Event marking the traditional New Year festival celebrated by the Turkish and Kurdish communities and countries including Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Albania, India, Turkey, Zanzibar and others across central Asia." - is highly erroneous, as it is first and foremost an Iranian festival, which is also shared by other cultures.
Please make the necessary amendment so that when one reads about Norooz they realise it is an Iranian festival, rather than one that also includes Iranians. Otherwise, it is tantamount to the absurdity in proclaiming the 4th July Independence day a day celebrated by the British, and others including Americans.

WHEN I CAME TO THIS COUNTRY 32 YEARS AGO, I CAME HERE WITH LOVE FOR LONDON AND THE QUEEN, IN FACT THE WHOLL UK. IT HAS BROKEN MY HEART AND WITH THIS NEW SO CALLED "ERROR!!!" LONDON HAS SERIOUSLY REDUCED TO A SMALL VILLAGE IN THE THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!! BUT WHY?????????? I CANT SAY ANY THING BUT TO SAY...I DEMAND THE LONDON GOV. AND THE MAYER OF LONDON, LORD BORIS( MY FAVARIT OF ALL) TO MAKE THE AMMENDMENT WITH AN APPOLOGIES TO PEACE LOVER PERSIAN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.ONE OTHER THING..TEACHING YOU ABOUT PERSIA AND 7 THOUSAND YEARS OLD "NOROOZ" WOULD BE MY PLEASURE. They have put the same thing for a few years now. I think it is the result of Kurdish lobbying with the Mayor's office.

ReplyDeleteAnonymous2, like your idea, amusing; however, I doubt it would have a significant effect on the London Govt. We cannot permit the UK bodies to tear away piece by piece true Persian heritage. The Queen called the Islamic revolution date a national holiday in Iran...How dare she, has she no clue on how it happened? It is not a national day, that's for certain.
