It is with great pleasure to report that the Islamic Republic of Iran failed to gain their much undeserved seat at the newly formed United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of women (A.K.A. UN Women). Thanks to international pressure by human rights defenders and the last minute candidacy of Timore Leste, the monstrous oppressor of women will not be able to corrupt another UN establishment that seeks to protect and further the rights of women. The IRI lost with 19 votes, whereas Timor Leste won with 36 votes.
Now, all attention remains focused on the UN Commission on the Status of Women, where the treacherous IRI was elected to 'serve' a four year term, commencing in 2011. As reiterated, it is astounding how a State with an overwhelmingly high abuse of gender equality, that refused to ratify CEDAW, was elected to sit on the Commission.
Suffice it to maintain, this bogus election in the international arena will not continue unaddressed. See you at the Commission's 55th Session, in New York.
Fantastic!

ReplyDeleteI do agree wholeheartedly with you, but looking at the list of countries elected is not a promising fact
There should be some major reform to be a member of these "rights councils"
Then what is contributing state doing here?
Does it mean Saudis bought their seat?
In my opinion we have moved a lot from the idea and spirit of a true UN after world war II
Are these councils going to be effective and meaningful?
Who wants to standardize and help the UN members, is it going to be Libya, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, or Ethiopia?
One wonders how to fight the injustices imposed upon all of us and where to go

"In my opinion we have moved away from the idea and spirit"
Thank you, Mehrtash, for keeping the pressure on Iran regarding women's rights, and bringing this to the attention of all who support equal rights. Let's put some pressure on the Saudis too, now.--Jigsawnovich
